Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) is an esteemed public university located in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 2005 under the name of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute, it gained 'university' status in 2006 and was granted recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Furthermore, its courses are also approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI), making it one of the most respected educational institutions for law education in India.
The university offers a variety of courses such as a five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) programme, and a two-year LLM degree course along with a regular PhD programme. All these courses are offered in full-time mode only. In order to practice law in India, the aspiring lawyers need to pass the All India Bar Exam (AIBE), conducted by BCI. Upon clearing this examination successfully, they are then presented with a ‘Certificate of Practice’ that is mandatory for practicing law as an advocate within India's jurisdiction. Eligibility: Duration in years : 5 years. The (B.A. LL.B.) is a five year integrated program, with 160 regular seats and 16 NRI seats for admission. The eligibility criteria for admission to the degree of B.A. LL.B (Hons.) requires that the candidate should have passed the Intermediate/Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent Examination from a University/recognized Board, securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks (or 45% for SC/ST category candidates). Selection of candidates is based on their performance in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
To be eligible for admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), a candidate must have secured an aggregate score of at least 50% in all papers of qualifying LL.B.(Hons.) Five Year Integrated Programme or LL.B.(Three year programme) from a recognized University and should have been selected on the basis of Common Law Admission Test(CLAT). Candidates should also meet other academic requirements as set out by respective universities such as passing minimum number of papers prescribed besides fulfilling any other conditions that may be prescribed from time to time.
In addition, educational qualifications are supplemented with certain soft skills that are tested through written tests, personal interviews and group discussions so as to assess intellectual capacity, analytical ability and communication skills etc., which form an integral part of legal education and profession.
